Busy Springtime: TCANZ Conference, Plain English Awards

NZ Plain English Awards

A quick note as part of a busy springtime here in New Zealand.

I’m very honored to be a judge of the New Zealand Plain English Awards. Last year, I judged several categories, and had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Neil James of the Plain English Foundation in Sydney. This year, us judges will be getting our entries soon, and it will be very challenging to choose the victors. For us, it’s great because we get to see the best work in our field.

One of the Plain English trophies in its native environment – this one was won by Te Papa Museum for their website.

Which brings us to the Technical Communicators Association of New Zealand Conference, in Auckland on the 24th through the 26th of October of this year. I’ve been supporting the conference with speaker recommendations and publicity, and I’ll be one of the emcees.

It’s a fantastic event for tech comms professionals throughout New Zealand and Australia, and the total programme is here. Dave Gash is back by popular demand, Anne Gentle is a true expert in social media, and amazing speaker and online learning expert Dr. Saul Carliner is our keynote speaker – here’s a preview of Dr. Carliner.
